Continuing with my theme of putting some historical elements into my blog, below is my latest excerpt from "We Get The World We Deserve" which is a novel i am writing currently. I hope you enjoy!

The Lost City of Atlantis (roughly 10 000-9000BCE), Adolf Hitler
and Nazi Germany (1933-1945CE).
What the heck could a mythical city that supposedly reigned almost
12 000 years ago and Nazi Germany from about 100 years ago have in common I
hear you ask? Well apart from a 1 and two zero’s not much actually (Ha!). Sorry
but I couldn’t help myself! In all seriousness though, the Nazi’s believed
there was a lot in common between them and the Atlantians. But before we get to
that, let’s head back in time to 10 000BCE!
The city of Atlantis was first mentioned by one of the most famous
philosophers of all time – Plato (428-348BCE)! He mentions it in a couple of
his dialogues (Timaeus and Critias) written around 360BCE. He describes Atlantis
and Athens as being the two super-powers in the Mediterranean/ Atlantic region.
Athens ruled/governed the Mediterranean Sea (east of the Pillars of Hercules –
Strait of Gibraltar) while Atlantis ruled/governed the Atlantic Ocean (west of
the Pillars of Hercules). These super-powers fought each other regularly and
Athens was lucky to have not been crushed by a far superior fighting force.

I think it’s fair to say that most people believe the following to
be true of Atlantis:
* That it was home to the most ‘Pure’ race of
people to have ever lived on the planet Earth. They were the ‘Best of the Best’.
They were ‘Good People’!
* They built incredibly beautiful, and advanced,
structures, the likes of which nobody had ever seen before them.
* It was located in (or around) the Mediterranean
Sea.

According to Plato, both races (Atlantians and Athenians) were
descended from the God’s (Atlantians were descended from Poseidon, the God of
the sea) but the people of Atlantis had gotten greedy and decadent and so Zeus (the
King of the God’s) punished them via earthquake and the island of Atlantis sunk
into the sea/ocean, never to be seen again. So does that mean the people of
Atlantis were originally good and pure but became evil as a result of their
quest for world domination?
Seeing as Plato was Greek you would expect him to trump up the
Athenians and beat down on the Atlantians, and that’s exactly what he did.
However, to be fair to Plato, he claims that the story of Atlantis was not his
own, and that he had read it via the writings of Solon (640-558BCE), who in
turn had gotten it from the Egyptians. Regardless, the story of Atlantis
appears to have been just that, a story. One which showed that underdogs could
win, particularly if the underdog was ‘good people’; and according to Plato it
was actually the Athenians that were good and not the Atlantians. The ‘Pure
Athenians’ with their tiny army were able to defeat the ‘Impure Atlantians’ and
their enormous army. They did it because good will defeat evil every single
time!
As I stated above, this may come as some surprise to you because
most modern reports of the people of Atlantis tells a very different story.
They were supposed to have been the pure ones; and apart from this purity, they
also happened to be very clever. Aside from the ruling class they also had
soldiers/warriors, farmers, and artisans. Apart from growing fruits, vegetables
and grains they also raised cattle. They mined for gold and silver, used bronze
and tin, and built incredible temples, statues, bridges, roads, canals, and
aqueducts. They could even construct war ships, trading vessels, and chariots.

So were the people of Atlantis pure or were they wicked? If they
were evil and clever, this is never a good mix! They were also going to take
over the free world so no wonder Zeus smote them down!
However, that’s only the first part of the myth of Atlantis. Apart
from the confusion over whether they were good or bad people, we also can’t
seem to find the fucking island. Adding further to this confusion is whether it
was actually an island at all. So let’s go back to Plato for some clarity then
shall we? He says it was an island west of the strait of Gibraltar, so it has
to be somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. Makes sense doesn’t it? Atlantis in the
Atlantic certainly has a nice ring to it. So why then do we hear about Atlantis
having been ‘found’ in virtually every sea or ocean on this planet of ours?
Some particularly popular locations include the island of Santorini in the
Mediterranean Sea (plus over a dozen other suggestions in the Mediterranean); the
mainland of Spain south of Seville (not even an island for fucks sake!); the
Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean south west of the Pillars of Hercules; and
the Azores archipelago in the mid-Atlantic due west of the Gibraltar strait. At
least these suggestions are in the general vicinity of Plato’s writings. But
there are others, including the Bermuda Triangle near the south eastern corner
of the United States of America; Great Britain; Ireland; the North Sea; the
Black Sea; Indonesia; Sri Lanka; Antarctica; even the North Pole (is that near
Santa Claus? Better yet, could Santa be a direct descendant of the people of
Atlantis? Does that mean Santa could be bad as well as good?). So many
questions left unanswered but we will leave the Santa discussion for another
time; but before we do I should add that Santa is real. So shove that in your
pipe and smoke it for those non-believers out there!

So we don’t know if the people of Atlantis were good or bad and we
don’t know where they lived. We also have to question a number of themes
mentioned earlier, namely the bit about how clever they were. I say this
because they would have had to be damn clever to have done some of the things
they were supposed to have in the years they existed. For starters, in 10
000BCE everyone on the planet were hunter-gatherers living in a free state.
There were no cities back then; the first was a city in modern day southern
Turkey called Catalhoyuk which was established around 7000BCE. None of the
fantastic architecture was possible in that era either. There were also no
domesticated cattle or horses. Roads, canals, bridges, or aqueducts were
unheard of. Nobody built ships and the wheel wouldn’t even be invented for
another 7000 years.
So assuming that Atlantis did exist, it didn’t thrive in 10
000BCE. For all of the pieces of Plato’s puzzle to have been factual, then
Atlantis thrived in 2500BCE. And that puts the Minoan civilisation and the
island of Santorini in the direct line of fire for Atlantis. One of the largest
volcanic eruptions to have ever taken place on Earth occurred in Santorini in
1646BCE and wiped out everything. So could this have been Zeus smiting
Atlantis?
Before I tell you what really happened I want to introduce the
second part to this discussion – Nazi Germany. Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler,
Alfred Rosenberg (and several others by default), believed that the German
people were direct descendants from the Atlantians, making the Germans an Aryan
or Master race; what they called ‘die Herrenrasse’. The Master race were tall,
blonde haired and blue-eyed (although there were some dark haired individuals
that were also acceptable, namely Hitler and Himmler). Typical!

This theory worked well for Hitler because he wasn’t willing to
consider the possibility that he was a descendant of the Jew Abraham. Heaven
forbid it! Ha!
Historically, Adolf Hitler became Chancellor (leader) of Germany
in 1933 and he successfully brought Germany out of the depression faster than
any other country, primarily through the building of the autobahn (motorway)
network, and a massive rearmament drive. This made him extremely popular with
the German people. During this period of mass approval he passed an ‘Enabling
Act’ which allowed him to rule as dictator with absolute civil and military
power. The German name for this is a ‘Fuhrer’.
This absolute power permitted him to introduce a form of ethnic
cleansing, which he did in November 1938, during the infamous ‘Kristallnacht’
or ‘Night of Broken Glass’. Hitler was looking to expel and intern (later
exterminate) every Jew, Slav, Gypsie, and homosexual, from Germany. He did this
because he was convinced that not all Germans qualified as ‘die Herrenrasse’.
The result was a crime of unparalleled scale. This ‘Holocaust’,
which was based on the German hierarchy’s inaccurate assumption they were
descendants of Atlantians, resulted in over 6 million Jews killed, as well as
countless other Slav, Gypsie, and homosexual people. One could also argue that
he was also partly responsible for the 70+ million deaths as a result of World
War II.
It’s such a shame the bomb that just missed Hitler during the
First World War (Belgium 1918) hadn’t been a few more metres to the right. No
Hitler means no Holocaust! But I digress.
Heinrich Himmler (second in command to Adolf Hitler) also took a
particular interest in Atlantis, or Helgoland (holy land) as they started
calling it. He sent experts all over the planet in search of the island.
Meanwhile, Alfred Rosenberg (supposed Atlantis expert) was able to convince a
large swath of gullible German people that after Atlantis sank into the ocean,
the survivors settled in Germany. They were obsessed. They wrote books on their
theory; they built institutions that researched Atlantis; they renamed certain
streets throughout Germany to honour this supposed ancestry. The Germans spent
millions and millions of dollars on Atlantis, and at the end of it all, they
had turned up nothing! Fuck all! Not one single shred of evidence to support
their claims.
What I also find fascinating is that if the people of Atlantis weren’t
‘good people’ then why were Germany so determined to prove they were ancestors
of this infected race? That turns out to be an easy question to answer. The
Germans didn’t believe that theory and were convinced that the people of
Atlantis were good people and the purest of the pure. They didn’t buy into that
waffle about Atlantians being wicked.
In the end, it’s irrelevant if the people of Atlantis were good or
evil if the island and its people never existed in the first place. As it turns
out, it never did! Atlantis was purely a myth written by Plato for the express
purpose of showing his readers that good will always triumph over evil.
Personally I also have to believe that good will defeat evil
because humanity depends on it; all life depends on it in actual fact. Further,
Plato indicated that the Gods would not tolerate sin. If we substitute the word
‘God’ for ‘Humanity’ then as a people we will also defeat the baddies! And we
need to believe because that’s the only way humanity will end up surviving.
Isn’t that what ended up happening to the ‘bad’ people that ruled Germany? Well
sort of! But don’t try and tell me that all Germans are bad people because they
weren’t back then and they aren’t now. It turns out that some of the nicest
people on the planet are Germans!
Regardless, World War II was a total abomination. The Germans
killing in excess of six million Jews, Slavs, Gypsies and homosexuals is not
okay. Similar to the Aztecs, they based their killings on a myth, and so many
innocents died as a result of this legend. I hope the people that were
responsible never rest in peace; as one of my friends once said in reference to
bad people – “you fuckers are fuckin’ fucked!”

As stated above, this is novel and as such it has a narrator. He doesn't necessarily share the same views as me because my narrator is fictional.
Having said that, the historical elements discussed above are as accurate as i am able to make them.
